This time of year I turn to thinking of all I have to be grateful for, all those no longer with me during this season of gathering and family, and more importantly, all that Jesus came and died and rose again to give to us: the real Gift that we’re celebrating Christmas.
Focusing on gratitude, I battle a habit of fear: reflecting on past mistakes and wrongs, worrying forward to all that’s still unknown. Christmas startles me awake. Humbles me. Reminds me deep inside that all is well, not because of my ability to control or survive but because Jesus has covered it all. He’s got it.
I remember Jesus, Who already forgave me and them. Who already welcomed my loved ones home. Who has the future safely in His hands. And then there is Peace. Breath deepens. Clenched muscles let go. The weight that is not ours to carry is lifted. We discover we are not responsible for ever the entire world. Its creator is.
Let’s go deep this holiday season… truly receive the Gift. Keep our eyes upon Him as He walks before us into the unknown. Trust. He’s got it all under control. Let us rest in Him. The REAL reason for the season.
Amen.
