At Christmas time I miss my big brother Dave, who as he was leaving this world, gave me the greatest gift of all… the true Reason for the season.
Having nearly finished his battle with colon cancer, Dave lay peering into Heaven from his hospital bed and came back to report: “I see Jesus!” Yes, Jesus. Not just the historical figure, but a very present Jesus. As in Emmanuel: “God with us.” Real! Alive! And waiting.
So as you celebrate Christmas, I pray you remember we gather because a Person named Jesus was born. But most of all I pray you grasp He is alive and well today, and with us as we celebrate His birth. Because celebrating Him, with Him, changes everything.
