There are days when it’s critical to remember that it’s as simple as starting over.
I’ve been missing for a while. Again! Missing from this page, gone from my work of writing books and posting snippets aimed to bright or lighten someone’s day. All because my life took over my work.
The interruptions were worthy things. First there was the call from a friend about to have emergency surgery. I was gone 8 days helping. Then came the holidays, meals and gatherings before family dispersed and mom headed south for the winter. There were business trips, kid trips, colds, grandbaby visits, dentists, losses, funerals, family stays, and taking our daughter to college. In between I ran out of steam and had to stop to rest.
Today I was reminded of a tiny visitor who stopped by months ago while I was on a writing retreat. An inchworm suddenly appeared before my eyes in the middle of my work. I suspected it then, but am certain of it today; God sent him to remind me, to remind us, that there would be times – days or even months – when we would need to remember that life and all worthy goals are a process best conquered inch by inch.
So, if you, like me, have felt overwhelmed, undone, or under-accomplished in this recent season, take a lesson from our inchworm friend: life is simple if we just take up where we last left off, on our way to where we’re going, trusting God to get us there.
In this season of new beginnings let’s remember to be patient with our goals and dreams, and especially with ourselves. Remember… It’s a process.
Simply begin again. Believing all those little steps, with all the pauses in between, will lead to where you’re going. It’s as simple as starting over.
Amen.
The LORD will fulfill his purpose for me; your steadfast love, O LORD, endures forever. Do not forsake the work of your hands. ~ Psalm 138:8 MSG
QUESTION: What one small step could you take today that would move you toward your goal again? Because it’s as simple as starting over again.
