Stone On Stone

When we stand at the river’s edge, we are given an opportunity to let God rebuild our lives – stone on stone.

Years ago I stood beside a river after a flood of devastating circumstances took away my family, home, career, possessions, bank account, and health… All gone. I was at the end of my own means. Entirely. I didn’t know it then, but God had something better in mind.

After a few months hunkered down beside the river, I felt Spirit’s unrelenting tug. He was asking me to climb the mountain at my back; the one that towered over that same river. On Easter morning I simply agreed to begin the climb I knew I didn’t have the strength to make. And a miracle happened along the way.

I am grateful for all of it now. Losing everything was the best thing that have ever happened to me. And climbing that amazing mountain – the one God built stone on stone – taught me to believe for things beyond my own abilities. Beyond what I could imagine for myself.

So when you find yourself beside the river, when something or someone treasured has been swept away, take hope. If you give the pieces back to God, you just never know what He might build with what little you think is left. Stone on stone.
