On Sunday mornings our Pastor likes to ask where we’ve seen Jesus this week. He reminds us to look for the extraordinary in the ordinariness of our days. We are like Moses herding sheep upon the mountains, busy with our jobs and lives, walking blindly through a world quietly ablaze.
When darkness comes we plead with God, Where are you Lord? Why won’t You speak? Why can’t I hear? All the while tromping past the answers that we seek. We overlook our burning bush.
But Moses had eyes to see. He ‘turned aside’. Pausing from his tasks, his countless sheep and the places he needed to be, he noticed the extraordinary in his midst. Only then did God speak to him through an ordinary object with extraordinary light.
Let’s begin to seek the extraordinary right before our eyes. For when we begin to see God’s light in the everyday things, we will begin to hear God’s voice in our everyday lives.
Amen.
Son of man, you are living among a rebellious people. They have eyes to see but do not see and ears to hear but do not hear, for they are a rebellious people. ~ Ezekiel 12:2

Beautifully written Joanna, thank you
Thanks Terri. Isn’t if ironic how the things we like the least, like seasons of affliction, illness, grief, are the things that slow us down enough to begin to hear? Has that been your experience as well? That’s why in hindsight, I am always grateful. Not always in the moment, but ALWAYS see the blessing in hindsight. Wouldn’t it be great if we all could just figure out how to slow down BEFORE some big event teaches us the hard way? I’m a slow learner but getting quicker all the time : )
